What changed and when
In a May 28, 2025 release, the City announced it would stop adding fluoride effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with Senate Bill 700, which prohibits fluoride use in water treatment statewide. The City said it had historically fluoridated to promote oral health, following public health guidance, and that the change was not expected to affect taste or color. It encouraged residents with questions about alternative fluoride sources to talk with their health-care or dental providers.
The numbers in the reports
| Report | Sample | Fluoride |
|---|---|---|
| Covering 2024 | July 2024 (added) | 0.77 ppm |
| Covering 2025 | August 2025 (not added) | 0.07 ppm |
The remaining fluoride comes from natural sources. The legal limit is 4.0 ppm.
Both figures are single samples reported in the City's annual tables; the next report will show another full year of results without added fluoride.
Do you still want a fluoride filter?
Living Water does not make health claims for or against fluoride. With added fluoride gone and the reported level at 0.07 ppm, some households decide a fluoride filter is no longer a priority; others prefer to reduce it further. Dental and medical questions belong with your dentist or doctor, as the City itself suggests.
If you are deciding for a household with children, the City's own release suggests talking with a dentist about fluoride sources like toothpaste and rinses; that is outside what a water treatment company should advise.
How fluoride is reduced
| Method | Notes |
|---|---|
| Reverse osmosis | Common point-of-use method; verify the listing |
| Activated alumina | Specialty media; depends on pH and contact time |
| Standard carbon | Not designed for fluoride |
| Whole-home city filter | Aimed at chlorine and chloramines |
For RO, look for an NSF/ANSI 58 listing that names fluoride for the exact model.
Any fluoride claim also depends on maintenance: once a membrane or media passes its rated capacity, the certified performance no longer applies.
What Living Water offers
Living Water's under-sink alkaline RO is a multi-stage RO drinking-water system. If fluoride matters to you, ask Jorge for the model's specifications and check its listing before buying.
If chloramine taste is your bigger concern, see chloramine filters instead.
