What Hialeah families usually want
- Coffee, rice, beans and soups that do not taste like the tap.
- Fewer jugs of bottled water to buy and haul home.
- Ice that does not smell of chlorine.
- A clear answer on what is actually in their water.
Those goals point to different equipment, so start with the one that matters most to you.
Options side by side
| Option | Best for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Pitcher | One or two people, renters | Small batches; check for a chloramine listing |
| Fridge filter | Cold water and ice | Listings vary; change on schedule |
| Under-sink alkaline RO | Families who drink and cook with a lot of water | Needs cabinet space and a drain; periodic filter changes |
| Whole-home system | Every faucet and shower | Needs main-line access; often paired with RO for drinking |
Why home RO still makes sense in an RO city
The Hialeah Reverse Osmosis plant treats part of the city's water, but most is still bought from Miami-Dade, and all of it travels through the city's pipes with a disinfectant. An under-sink alkaline RO system treats water at the last step, right at your faucet, and Living Water's design adds minerals back after the membrane. If cost is the question, see what drives RO cost in Hialeah and the bottled water vs. RO calculator.
Specific concerns: fluoride and PFAS
Miami-Dade stopped adding fluoride effective May 29, 2025, and state law now restricts additives, so natural fluoride is what remains. The city's 2025 report also includes PFAS monitoring results. For either concern, look for a system whose exact model is certified for that reduction: NSF/ANSI 58 for RO, and for PFAS, NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 with a PFOA and PFOS claim. See PFAS filters in Hialeah and fluoride filters in Hialeah.
