What the system is up against
Jupiter's 2025 Water Quality Report lists chloramines at a highest running annual average of 2.99 ppm, with individual results from 0.6 to 4.4 ppm. Seacoast's 2025 report lists 3.7 ppm, with results from 3.6 to 3.8. Both are within the 4 ppm limit. Chloramine is chlorine combined with ammonia; it lasts longer in pipes than free chlorine, which is why utilities use it, and also why it takes more to filter out.
Not sure which utility serves you? Your water bill says it: either the Town of Jupiter Utilities or Seacoast Utility Authority.
Why media and size matter more here
Chloramine needs more contact time with carbon than free chlorine does, and many systems use catalytic carbon for it. An undersized tank lets water pass too quickly at peak flow, such as two showers and a washing machine at once. Ask how the recommended system was sized for your bathrooms and flow, and whether its rating covers chloramine specifically. Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring city water systems as removing chloramine and chlorine.
Not a softener, and usually does not need to be
Jupiter says nanofiltration replaced its older lime softening plant, and Seacoast treats most of its water with nanofiltration. Both processes remove much of the hardness at the plant. So a whole-home system here generally focuses on chloramine and sediment, without a softening stage, unless a test at your tap says otherwise.
House, townhome or condo
- Single-family house near US-1: the system goes on the main line after the meter, typically in a garage or side yard.
- Townhome: possible with your own shutoff and association approval.
- Oceanfront condo: shared risers make whole-home impractical; under-sink RO and shower filters are the usual route.
Salt air and outdoor placement
Near the ocean, outdoor equipment ages faster. Ask where the tank and valve will sit, whether they are shaded and covered, and how the bypass valve is protected so you can isolate the system for service.
Pair it with drinking water
A whole-home filter targets chloramine at every tap; it is not designed to lower dissolved solids. Many households add kitchen RO. Compare in whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
