What the report says
In its inorganic contaminants table, the Town lists fluoride at 0.088 ppm from February 2023 sampling, with a maximum contaminant level of 4. A footnote says fluoride is found naturally in the surficial aquifer and that the Town does not add fluoride in its treatment process.
Florida's 2025 law
SB 700, passed in 2025, prohibits adding anything to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality; the Senate summary lists July 1, 2025 as the effective date. For Jupiter customers this changes nothing in practice, since the Town says it does not add fluoride.
Membrane water and fluoride
Jupiter's water goes through reverse osmosis or nanofiltration at the plant. That is part of why the number is low. Customers in Juno Beach and the unincorporated areas the Town serves receive the same water.
Reducing fluoride further at home
- Reverse osmosis is the most common household method. See under-sink RO in Jupiter.
- Carbon filters, pitchers and fridge filters are generally not designed for fluoride.
- Look for the exact model's fluoride reduction certification, typically under NSF/ANSI 58.
The alkaline stage on Living Water's RO adds minerals for taste; it does not add fluoride.
Wells and other sources
Jupiter Farms wells are not covered by the Town's report; a certified lab can test for fluoride. Toothpaste and some bottled waters also contain fluoride. Health questions belong with your doctor or dentist.
Neighbors may differ
Not every utility near Jupiter has the same source or treatment. Tequesta and Seacoast Utility Authority run separate systems, and their reports list their own fluoride results. If you compare numbers with friends nearby, compare reports from the same year and the same utility. Jupiter's figure comes from a sample taken in February 2023; the state allows some inorganic contaminants to be monitored less than once a year because their levels rarely change, which the report explains. For the current practice or a newer sample, ask the Town's water quality line at 561-741-2735 or email [email protected].
