Town RO vs. kitchen RO
| Town of Jupiter RO plant | Under-sink RO | |
|---|---|---|
| Water it treats | Brackish water from Floridan Aquifer wells over 1,500 feet deep | Your finished tap water |
| When | Before chloramine is added | After chloramine and the trip through the pipes |
| Purpose | Make public drinking water | Drinking and cooking water to your taste |
The Town's water is a blend: RO water plus nanofiltration water from the shallow aquifer, then disinfected.
What a kitchen RO handles
- Chloramine taste and odor, through the carbon stages before and after the membrane.
- Dissolved solids that remain in the blended Town water.
- Specific contaminants only if the exact model is certified for them, usually under NSF/ANSI 58.
Why alkaline
Living Water's under-sink systems are multi-stage alkaline RO units with a dedicated faucet. The alkaline stage adds minerals back after the membrane for taste. Some people like it; others prefer standard RO. See alkaline vs. standard RO.
Fitting it in a Jupiter kitchen
- Space under the sink for the tank or unit.
- A hole for the dedicated faucet, or an existing sprayer hole.
- A drain connection; RO rinses a small amount to drain.
- Optional line to the refrigerator or ice maker.
Condos near the Inlet and Harbourside often have tighter cabinets; that is a sizing question, not a deal-breaker.
Fluoride and the free chlorine weeks
The Town says it does not add fluoride; a small natural amount comes from the surficial aquifer. RO is the common household method for reducing fluoride if you want to. During the annual free chlorine maintenance (July 14 to August 4 in 2026), the RO's carbon stages handle chlorine as well.
Juno Beach and the unincorporated service area
Jupiter Utilities also serves the Town of Juno Beach and unincorporated parts of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, according to its 2025 water supply plan, so homes there receive the same blended, chloraminated water. The Town's 2025 report even notes that its highest locational average for one disinfection byproduct was measured on US-1 in Juno Beach, at 1.58 ppb against a limit of 80. An under-sink RO works the same way at any of these addresses. If you are not sure whether your home is on Town water or a well, the bill or a quick test settles it.
