What the Town already publishes
- An annual Water Quality Report, distributed by July 1 with results for the previous year, on the Town's Current Water Quality Report page. A Spanish accessible version is posted too.
- Chloramine, disinfection byproducts, lead and copper, inorganic contaminants and radiological results.
- A 2024 service line inventory showing no lead service lines, with a map at jupiter.fl.us/ServiceLines.
Questions go to 561-741-2735 or [email protected].
What a home screening covers
| Test | Why it matters in Jupiter |
|---|---|
| Total chlorine | Chloramine at your tap; the Town lists a highest annual average of 2.99 ppm |
| Hardness | No hardness figure is published; membrane treatment usually keeps it low, but your tap tells the truth |
| Total dissolved solids | A baseline for comparing before and after RO |
| pH | A general reading of the water |
Jupiter Farms and other wells
The Town's water supply plan notes that Jupiter Farms residents use private wells. Nobody tests a private well unless the owner does. The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County runs an Environmental Laboratory that tests drinking water for total coliform and E. coli; call 561-840-4500. Jorge can screen a well for iron, hardness, pH and odor so equipment is sized correctly, and will recommend a lab test where bacteria or specific contaminants are the question.
When to test
- Before buying any filter or softener.
- After moving from a lime-softened or well-water area; Jupiter's membrane water can taste quite different.
- If you notice a change outside the summer free chlorine period.
- If you see discolored water or stained fixtures. The Town's report notes rust and iron can build up in home plumbing, especially old galvanized pipe.
- When buying a home in Jupiter Farms or another well area.
Home screening vs. lab analysis
A home screening gives practical numbers for choosing equipment. A certified lab is the tool for bacteria, lead, PFAS and other specific contaminants. See home screening vs. lab analysis and what happens during a home water assessment.
