KENDALL · FLUORIDE

Fluoride Water Filter in Kendall

WASD's 2025 Water Quality Report says its main plants, including the Alexander Orr, Jr. plant that serves Kendall, stopped adding fluoride as of June 6, 2025, and that main-system fluoride has since ranged about 0.1 to 0.3 ppm from natural sources. If you still want to reduce fluoride, reverse osmosis is a common method; check the exact model's certification for fluoride reduction. Jorge can measure and explain your water at a free home visit.

What changed in 2025

According to WASD, the Orr, Preston and Hialeah plants discontinued fluoridation as of June 6, 2025, to comply with Miami-Dade County Resolution R-370-25, approved May 6, 2025, and Florida Senate Bill 700, which took effect July 1, 2025. WASD says this does not significantly affect its treatment processes or compliance with water quality standards.

Miami-Dade's water supply page notes the county had added fluoride since 1958 before this change.

Why some fluoride is still there

Fluoride occurs naturally in soil and groundwater. WASD reports that after fluoridation stopped, main-system levels ranged from about 0.1 to 0.3 ppm because of natural levels in the soil and Biscayne Aquifer source water. That is what reaches most Kendall homes on county water today.

If you want to reduce it further

  • Reverse osmosis is a common household method for reducing fluoride. Living Water's under-sink alkaline RO serves a dedicated kitchen faucet.
  • Activated alumina filters are another method used for fluoride.
  • Standard carbon filters, pitchers and fridge filters are generally not designed for fluoride.
  • Whatever you choose, check that the exact model is certified for fluoride reduction, typically under NSF/ANSI 58 for RO.

Wells and other water sources

WASD's fluoride change applies to county water. Homes in and around Kendall on private wells never received added fluoride, and their natural fluoride depends on the well; a certified lab can measure it. Bottled water varies by brand, and labels or the bottler can tell you what it contains.

If you are comparing sources for a family decision, measure first. Jorge can explain how RO changes water in general, and a lab can give you a precise fluoride number for a well.

A neutral note

People have different views on fluoride. We do not take a position or make health claims either way. If you have questions about fluoride and your family's teeth or health, a dentist or doctor is the right person to ask. Our role is to explain what is in your water and what equipment can and cannot do.

What else RO changes

RO also addresses taste and dissolved solids, so many Kendall households see fluoride as one factor among several. Compare options on the best drinking water system for a Kendall home page, or see under-sink reverse osmosis in Kendall. For a free test, call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
