What the report says
The report's inorganic table lists fluoride at 0.13 ppm from a March 2023 sample, against a maximum contaminant level of 4 ppm. Seacoast notes the fluoride is naturally occurring. Florida law since July 1, 2025 also prohibits additives in public water systems that do not meet the state's definition of a water quality additive.
Reducing fluoride at home
- Reverse osmosis: a common method for drinking water at one tap. See under-sink RO in Lake Park.
- Carbon filters: standard carbon is generally not designed for fluoride.
- Certification: look for an NSF/ANSI 58 listing that includes fluoride reduction for the exact model.
Do you need it?
That is your decision; we take no position for or against fluoride. With Seacoast's water already low in fluoride, many Lake Park households choose RO for taste and convenience rather than fluoride specifically. Questions about fluoride and dental health are best answered by your dentist.
Private wells
Natural fluoride in a private well can vary. A certified lab can measure it if you want a number.
Whole-home or one tap?
Fluoride reduction is normally done at one tap with RO, because that is where you drink and cook. Whole-home systems designed for chloramine are not fluoride systems. If someone offers whole-home fluoride removal, ask for the certification listing showing fluoride reduction for that exact model and the capacity at your water use.
RO also lowers other dissolved minerals. Living Water's alkaline RO units add minerals back after the membrane for taste.
Where to check for updates
Seacoast publishes its annual report each spring on sua.com, and the Town of Lake Park links it from its Community page. Check the inorganic table for the most recent fluoride sample.
Fluoride and other South Florida utilities. Fluoride status differs by utility. Some South Florida utilities added fluoride until the 2025 state law took effect; Seacoast's report says it does not practice fluoridation at all. If you move within the region, check your new utility's annual report rather than assuming. Lake Park residents can find Seacoast's report on sua.com and through the Town's website.
Questions to ask before buying.
- Is fluoride reduction on the model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing?
- What percentage reduction was certified, and at what test level?
- How often are the membrane and filters replaced?
