What is in the shower water
Lake Worth Beach blends lime-softened water with reverse osmosis water and then adds chloramine so the water stays protected in the pipes. The plant's process lowers hardness, and the city's report describes the result as good for bathing. What remains noticeable for many people is the disinfectant, which can smell stronger in a hot, steamy shower. During the city's temporary free-chlorine periods, such as August 24 to September 14, 2025, the smell can be more obvious.
Comfort factors, not medical claims
- Disinfectant: some people notice that chlorinated water leaves skin and hair feeling drier.
- Hardness: hard water can leave soap residue that feels filmy. In Lake Worth Beach it is usually lower, but test to be sure.
- Hot, long showers: often the biggest factor of all, whatever the water.
Water treatment can change how the water feels. It is not a treatment for any skin condition. A dermatologist is the right person for that.
What a whole-home system changes
A whole-home system designed for chloramine treats every shower, the washing machine and every tap. Living Water's Puronics systems for city water are described as removing chloramine and chlorine. A shower-head filter is smaller and cheaper, but small carbon cartridges have limited contact time with chloramine, so check what the model is certified for.
When hardness is part of it
If your test shows more hardness than you expected, or you are on a private well, a softener may help with that filmy feeling. Jorge measures it at your tap. See softener vs. filter.
Laundry and hair
Some households notice the disinfectant smell on towels or feel their hair is rougher after washing. A whole-home system treats the washing machine too, since it sits on the main line. Lake Worth Beach water is already softened at the plant, so for most homes the change you would notice comes from removing chloramine, not from softening. If a test shows otherwise, Jorge will explain what the number means for you.
Small changes worth trying first
- Shorter, slightly cooler showers.
- Gentle cleansers and moisturizing right after.
- Checking whether symptoms change when you travel.
If they help, great. If you want to change the water itself, Jorge will test and show you the numbers. Call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
