What the report says
The 2025 report's water source section says the water pumped to the treatment plant is lime softened, filtered, disinfected and fluoridated before it enters the distribution system. The City's Water Treatment Plant page uses the same wording. The inorganic contaminants table shows fluoride at a highest level of 0.67 ppm and a range of 0.61 to 0.67 ppm, sampled in February and April 2025, well under the 4 ppm maximum.
What changed in Florida
The Florida Senate's summary of SB 700 (2025) says the law prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality, effective July 1, 2025. Many Florida utilities have said they stopped adding fluoride as a result. The Lauderhill samples in the 2025 report were taken before that date. For the City's practice today, call the Water Treatment Plant at 954-730-2972.
Natural fluoride stays
Groundwater carries some natural fluoride from the rock it passes through. Even when no fluoride is added, a utility still tests for it and reports it. So the number in future reports will not necessarily be zero.
Home options
- Reverse osmosis is the common method for reducing fluoride at a kitchen tap. Check that the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing includes fluoride.
- Standard carbon pitchers and fridge filters are generally not designed for fluoride.
- Whole-home filters for city water target disinfectant taste and odor, not fluoride.
Living Water's under-sink alkaline RO adds minerals back after the membrane for taste.
Staying neutral
People reduce fluoride for many reasons, and others prefer to keep it. This page does not argue either way. For questions about fluoride and your family's health or dental care, ask your doctor or dentist. Our job is to explain what the City reports and what equipment can and cannot do.
