What an under-sink RO does
Living Water's alkaline reverse osmosis systems are multi-stage units that sit under the kitchen sink and feed a separate faucet. Water passes through pre-filters, then a semi-permeable membrane, then post-filtration and a remineralizing (alkaline) stage. You get a steady supply for drinking, coffee, cooking and ice without hauling cases of bottled water home along Okeechobee Boulevard.
On a private well
Most Loxahatchee Groves homes draw from wells in the surficial aquifer, according to the Town's 2024 planning analysis. Raw well water can carry iron, hydrogen sulfide and hardness, which clog or foul pre-filters and membranes quickly. Two practical rules:
- Treat iron and sulfur at the whole-home level first when the test shows them.
- Lab-test the well for bacteria and nitrate, as the Florida Department of Health recommends yearly. RO is a drinking-water polishing step, not a substitute for knowing what is in the well.
If a specific contaminant is your concern, choose a model certified for that contaminant under NSF/ANSI 58 and check the exact model's listing.
On PBCWUD water
County water along Southern Boulevard, Okeechobee Boulevard and 40th Street North is treated and disinfected with chloramine. An RO system's carbon stages and membrane address taste and odor at the kitchen tap, which is what most county-water households want. If you only care about drinking water, RO alone may be all you need.
Installation details
- Space under the sink for the unit and tank (or a tankless model).
- A drain connection for the membrane's reject water. On septic, mention it so the volume is considered.
- A countertop hole for the dedicated faucet.
- Optional line to the refrigerator's ice maker.
Compare formats in tankless vs. tank RO and alkaline vs. standard RO.
Upkeep
Pre-filters and post-filters are replaced on a schedule, and membranes less often. On a well, the schedule depends heavily on what the upstream treatment removes. Ask for the replacement schedule in writing with your quote. See reverse osmosis cost factors.
Who it suits in Loxahatchee Groves
RO is a good fit for households that drink a lot of water, cook from the tap, or simply want water that tastes the same whether the well had a rainy week or a dry one. It is also a sensible first step for families on county water who are not ready for whole-home equipment. It is not a fix for orange stains, sulfur odor in the shower, or scale on fixtures; those are whole-home jobs. Jorge will tell you which category your concern falls into.
