Why the water source changes the price
Most homes in Loxahatchee Groves use domestic wells in the surficial aquifer, according to the Town's 2024 planning analysis. Iron, hydrogen sulfide and hardness in well water shorten the life of RO pre-filters and membranes. If the test shows them, the sensible plan treats them first, either with a whole-home well system or a dedicated pre-filter. That is a real cost difference compared with a home on treated county water, and it is better to know it up front.
Equipment factors
- Number of stages and whether there is an alkaline remineralization stage.
- Tank or tankless: see tankless vs. tank RO.
- Booster pump if well pressure is low or cycles widely.
- Faucet style and finish.
Installation factors
- Space and access under the sink.
- Countertop material for the faucet hole (stone takes more work).
- A line to the refrigerator or ice maker.
- Drain connection, and on septic, a conversation about reject water.
Ongoing costs to ask about
Ask for the replacement schedule and part numbers for every filter and the membrane, in writing. On a well, ask how upstream treatment affects that schedule, and plan for periodic retesting. Read RO maintenance and operating costs and filter replacement cost for the full checklist.
Comparing against bottled water
On a rural lot far from the store, hauling bottled water adds up in time as well as money. Use our bottled water vs. RO calculator with your own household numbers.
Questions to ask any installer
- Which test results led you to this model and these stages?
- Is pre-treatment included, and why or why not on my well?
- What is the membrane's expected life on my water, and what changes it?
- Is the faucet hole, ice-maker line and drain connection included?
- Who services it, and how do I order filters?
