The biggest factor: well or county water
The Town's 2024 planning analysis says most homes here use domestic self-supply wells, with Palm Beach County Water Utilities mains only along a few corridors. That single fact drives most of the price difference between two quotes in the same town. County water is already treated and disinfected with chloramine; the system mainly targets taste and odor. Well water arrives untreated, and the system may need several stages to get to the result you want.
Cost drivers on a private well
- Iron and hydrogen sulfide levels: higher levels call for larger or additional oxidation and filtration stages.
- Hardness: whether a softening stage is needed, and how large.
- Disinfection: added only if lab results call for it.
- Flow rate and pressure: well pump output and pressure tank size affect equipment sizing.
- Equipment location: a long run to a barn or shed adds plumbing and electrical work.
- Drain and septic considerations: where backwash goes.

Cost drivers on county water
- Whole-home vs. drinking-water-only (under-sink RO).
- Number of bathrooms and peak flow.
- Plumbing access at the main line.
- Optional additions, like RO at the kitchen sink.
County water here comes from PBCWUD's Eastern Region and carries chloramine, which the 2025 Water Quality Report lists at a highest running annual average of 3.04 ppm. Systems built to handle chloramine are sized for contact time, so the household's flow rate matters more than the size of the lot.
What a fair quote should show
Ask for line items: each piece of equipment by model, installation labor, plumbing materials, any electrical work, the first-year maintenance plan, and what is excluded (for example, well pump repairs or permit fees if any apply). Ask how the test results map to each stage. If a quote does not explain why a stage is there, ask. See how to compare water treatment quotes.
Ownership costs to ask about
Filter and media replacement schedules, salt for any softening stage, periodic retesting of the well, and service visits. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
