What the report shows
The inorganic contaminants table lists fluoride at 0.59 ppm, sampled July 2023, with no violation. The table's "likely source" column describes both natural erosion and fluoride as a water additive. The sample predates the 2025 state law, so it does not tell you current practice. DEES at (954) 972-0828 can confirm.
The 4.0 ppm figure in the table is the federal maximum contaminant level; the table also notes the old optimum level of 0.7 ppm used when fluoride was added for dental health.
Florida's 2025 law
SB 700, passed in 2025, prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. Natural fluoride in the Biscayne Aquifer is not an additive, so it remains at whatever level the source carries.
Because the law is recent, the next annual report is the best place to see post-change fluoride results for Margate's system.
Options if you want to reduce fluoride
- Reverse osmosis: a common method. Look for an NSF/ANSI 58 listing that includes fluoride for the exact model. See under-sink RO in Margate.
- Carbon filters and pitchers: generally not designed for fluoride.
- Whole-home: rarely used for fluoride; Living Water's city water systems are described for chloramine and chlorine.
RO reduces many dissolved minerals at once, not just fluoride, which is why some people choose alkaline RO that adds minerals back for taste. Whatever you choose, keep the filter schedule; certification claims only hold within rated capacity.
A neutral note
We do not take a position on fluoride and health. For questions about fluoride and teeth or health, talk with your dentist or doctor.
This page simply explains what the reports and the law say, and what filtration options exist.
Getting a precise number
If fluoride is your main concern, a certified lab gives a precise result for your tap. Jorge can help you read it and decide whether a drinking water system makes sense.
If you are on a private well, fluoride levels depend on your well, and only a test of that well tells you.
