PFAS in brief
PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals used for decades in products that resist heat, water, grease and stains, and in some firefighting foams. They persist in the environment. The U.S. EPA has set national drinking water standards for several PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS, with monitoring and compliance phased in over several years.
Where Miami Beach results are published
- City of Miami Beach 2024 Water Quality Report. Alongside the regulated results, it includes a table of additional contaminants monitoring for perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), noting these were tested voluntarily by WASD and were not regulated at the time.
- WASD 2025 Water Quality Report. Lists PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and a PFAS Hazard Index for WASD's systems. WASD explains that initial compliance monitoring is underway, that required reporting in these reports begins with the 2027 reports, and that it is already taking measures to comply.
- EPA UCMR 5. EPA's fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule collected PFAS data from public water systems nationwide.
Read the units carefully: PFAS are reported in parts per trillion.
Certifications that matter
- NSF/ANSI 53: point-of-use and point-of-entry filters for health-related contaminants, including PFOA and PFOS reduction claims.
- NSF/ANSI 58: reverse osmosis systems, which can be certified for PFOA and PFOS reduction.
Certification belongs to a specific model, not a brand. Look up the model number in the certifier's database and confirm PFOA and PFOS appear in the listing.
Our position
Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. If PFAS is your concern, Jorge will help you understand drinking-water options and point you to certification listings so you can verify any model, including RO. PFAS testing requires a certified laboratory; the free in-home screening covers taste, odor and scale factors.
Questions to ask any seller
- Which exact model is certified, and under which standard, 53 or 58?
- Does the listing include both PFOA and PFOS?
- What capacity, in gallons, is the certification based on, and when must the filter be replaced?
- Is the certification for the whole system as installed, including the faucet and housings?
If a seller can not answer these clearly, keep looking.
Condo-friendly approach
For most Miami Beach condo owners, a point-of-use system at the kitchen sink is the practical place to address drinking and cooking water. Whatever you choose, change filters on schedule; certified performance assumes it. See best drinking water system for a Miami Beach home, or call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
