What is in Miramar shower water
City of Miramar water is membrane-treated at the East and West plants, then disinfected by chlorination. The 2024 report lists the chlorine residual at an average of 2.14 parts per million. In a hot shower, chlorine is easier to smell, and many people say the water feels different after a filter is installed.
Hardness is the other factor. Miramar's membrane treatment removes much of it, so a test is needed before assuming hardness is part of your situation.
Things that matter as much as the water
- Shower temperature and length.
- Soap and shampoo choice.
- South Florida air conditioning, which dries indoor air.
- Sun and pool time.
Being honest about these helps you decide whether a water system is worth it for you.
Options that address the water
- Whole-home filtration: treats every shower and tap. Living Water describes its Puronics whole-home systems as removing chlorine and chloramine. See whole-home filtration in Miramar.
- Shower-head filters: small and easy to try, but limited contact time; check their certification.
- Softening: only if your test shows meaningful hardness. See hard water spots.
What we will not claim
A filter is not a medical treatment, and no water system can promise changes to a skin condition. If you have eczema, persistent itching or a rash, talk to a dermatologist. What Jorge can do is measure chlorine and hardness at your shower and explain what a system would and would not change.
How Jorge tests shower water
He measures free and total chlorine and hardness at a shower or the nearest tap, and compares it with the kitchen. In homes with long pipe runs or rarely used bathrooms, readings can vary. He then explains what a whole-home system would change and what it would not.
Hair and color-treated hair
Many people also notice how their hair feels after switching water. Chlorine and minerals are the factors usually discussed. As with skin, any change is personal and not guaranteed; a stylist or dermatologist is the right person for hair and scalp concerns.
