What reaches your main line
Miramar's water starts as groundwater from the Biscayne and Floridan Aquifers. At the East plant it passes through nanofiltration; at the West plant, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Membranes remove particles and many minerals, and then chlorine is added so the water stays disinfected through miles of pipe. The city's 2024 report lists the chlorine residual at an average of 2.14 parts per million.
That residual is intentional and it meets standards. It is also what most people notice in a glass of water or a hot shower.
What a whole-home system changes
- Chlorine taste and odor at every tap, not just the kitchen.
- The shower and bath, where warm water makes chlorine more noticeable.
- Ice makers and coffee, because the fridge line is filtered too.
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics equipment, including the Clarius iGen and Goodspring lines, which Living Water describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. A whole-home system does not replace the city's treatment. It adjusts how the water tastes and smells after it reaches your home. For any specific contaminant claim, check that the exact model is certified for it under the relevant NSF/ANSI standard.
Sizing for Miramar homes
Miramar has a wide mix of housing, from townhome communities near Miramar Parkway to larger single-family homes in the west. Sizing depends on:
- Number of bathrooms and people, which sets the peak flow the system must handle.
- Pipe size at the main line and where it enters (garage, side yard or utility closet).
- Whether an HOA has rules about equipment placed outside.
- What the free test shows at your tap.
An undersized system can reduce water pressure when two showers run at once. That is why Jorge looks at the plumbing, not just the house size.
When whole-home is not the answer
If your only concern is drinking water, an under-sink alkaline RO may be enough. If your property is on a private well, as some Country Club Ranches homes have been, you need a well water system built from the well's own test, not a city water filter. And if the problem is orange staining outside, that usually traces to an irrigation well, not the city line. See iron stains in Miramar.
Pairing with kitchen RO
Many homeowners combine both: whole-home filtration for chlorine at every tap and reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking. Compare the two in whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
