The biggest cost driver: city water or well
Most Miramar homes get City of Miramar water that has already passed through nanofiltration or reverse osmosis and carries a chlorine residual. For those homes, the conversation is about chlorine taste and odor and drinking water.
A property on a private well is a different project. The city points out that private wells are unregulated and owners are responsible for testing them. A well system may need several stages chosen from the well's test, so it involves more equipment. See well water treatment in Miramar.
Other factors that move the price
- System type: under-sink RO, whole-home filter, softener, or a combination.
- Home size and flow: more bathrooms means a larger system to keep pressure steady.
- Plumbing access: where the main line enters, pipe material and size, and whether a bypass loop is needed.
- Drain and power: softeners and some well systems need both nearby.
- HOA requirements: some communities limit visible equipment outside.
What a fair quote should include
- The exact model and what it is designed to treat.
- Installation, parts and any plumbing changes.
- Filter or media replacement schedule and what those parts cost.
- Warranty terms in writing.
- What is not included, such as permits or electrical work, if any apply.
For a side-by-side method, see how to compare water treatment quotes and why quotes differ.
Ownership costs to ask about
Ask how often filters or media are replaced, whether a softener uses salt, how much water an RO sends to the drain, and what service visits involve. These recurring items matter as much as the installed price. More in annual cost of owning a whole-home filter.
Questions to ask any Miramar installer
- Did you test my water at the tap, and what did it show?
- Is the system sized for my bathrooms and peak flow?
- What does it treat, and is it certified for any specific contaminant you mention?
- Who services it, and how often?
A recommendation built on the City of Miramar's actual treatment (membranes, then chlorine) should look different from one built on a generic sales script.
