NORTH MIAMI · PFAS FILTER

PFAS Water Filter in North Miami

PFAS are long-lasting man-made chemicals now being monitored under new federal drinking water standards. North Miami's 2025 Water Quality Report includes a separate PFAS table with results for the city's own water system and for the Miami-Dade water it buys. If you want a home filter for PFAS, rely only on a model certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or NSF/ANSI 58 for PFOA and PFOS reduction, and confirm that exact model's listing.

What PFAS are

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are used in nonstick, stain-resistant and water-repellent products, some firefighting foams and industrial processes, and they persist in the environment for a very long time. The city's report lists likely sources as discharge from manufacturing and industrial chemical facilities, certain consumer products, occupational exposures and certain firefighting activities.

North Miami's PFAS table

Under 2025 Additional Contaminants Monitoring, the report lists these results for the North Miami water system, tested in 2024:

PFASFederal MCLNorth Miami system
PFOS4 ppt45 ppt
PFOA4 ppt12 ppt
PFHxS10 ppt8.6 ppt
PFNA10 pptNot detected
Hazard Index10.9

The report places these in a separate table, with the violation column marked not applicable, and gives the Miami-Dade results alongside. WASD's own 2025 report explains that these standards were recently set and initial compliance monitoring is underway. Questions about the table can go to Public Works at 305-895-9830.

Where federal rules stand

The EPA set limits for six PFAS in April 2024, with compliance years away, and in 2025 announced plans to extend the deadline for PFOA and PFOS and rescind limits for several others. Check the EPA's PFAS drinking water page for the current status.

Choosing a PFAS filter

  1. Choose carbon block certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or reverse osmosis certified to NSF/ANSI 58.
  2. Confirm the certification lists PFOA and PFOS reduction.
  3. Check the exact model number on the certifier's listing; the EPA's guide to certified PFAS filters links there.
  4. Change filters on the certified schedule. A filter used past its rated life will not perform as listed.

A whole-home chloramine filter is a different product from a PFAS-certified drinking water filter. See carbon vs. RO.

Testing your own tap

PFAS are measured in parts per trillion and need a certified laboratory. Ask which method the lab uses and which compounds it reports so you can compare with the city's table.

What Jorge can and cannot do

Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. Jorge's free in-home test covers chloramine, hardness and other everyday factors, not PFAS. He can walk you through the city's table and the certifications to look for. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.

Common questions

Does North Miami report PFAS results?

Yes. Its 2025 Water Quality Report has a separate PFAS table for the city system and the Miami-Dade water it buys.

What PFOS level does the report list?

45 ppt for the North Miami water system, tested in 2024, against a federal MCL of 4 ppt that is still in its initial monitoring period.

Do Living Water's systems remove PFAS?

Living Water does not claim that. Look for a model certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for PFOA and PFOS.

Can Jorge test for PFAS?

No. PFAS testing needs a certified laboratory.

Who can answer questions about the table?

The city lists Public Works at 305-895-9830 for questions about its water report.
