Why most homes skip it
Seacoast describes nanofiltration as demineralization of its surficial aquifer supply. About 26 of the plant's 30.5 million gallons per day of capacity is nanofiltration and 3.5 is low-pressure RO. Paying to soften water that has already been membrane-softened rarely changes much at the tap, and the complaint most residents describe, chloramine taste, is not something a softener addresses.
If someone recommends softening a North Palm Beach home on Seacoast water, ask to see the hardness reading from your tap and the target after softening. Without those, there is nothing to price.
When there is a reason: price drivers
- Measured hardness at your tap or well.
- Daily use and peak flow.
- Tank and resin size, valve type and regeneration control.
- Installation: plumbing, drain access, electrical.
- Commercial targets: the equipment maker's hardness spec for kitchens, laundries or boilers.
For a business, the equipment maker's water specs usually set the target, and that target drives the size.
Ongoing costs
Ion-exchange softeners use salt to regenerate and need periodic service. Ask about salt use per regeneration, service intervals and warranty. Salt-free conditioners have different upkeep, usually periodic media replacement. See water softener cost in Florida.
Ask which type is being quoted and why it fits your measured water.
Private wells are different
A private well bypasses Seacoast's membranes. If a test shows hardness together with iron or sulfur, softening may be one stage of a well system, and iron affects resin life, so the order of stages matters. See well water in North Palm Beach.
For wells, Jorge configures the stages from the test rather than starting from a softener.
Questions to ask before you pay
- What is my hardness reading, and what will it be after softening?
- What problem that I see today will this solve?
- Would a chloramine filter or kitchen RO address my real complaint?
If the answers are vague, so is the recommendation. Compare in softener vs. filter in North Palm Beach.
Start with a hardness test
Jorge tests hardness free at your home and will tell you if the reading does not justify equipment. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
