What Seacoast already does
Seacoast's 2025 Water Quality Report describes two membrane processes: reverse osmosis for desalination of brackish Floridan aquifer water and nanofiltration for demineralization of its fresh surficial aquifer supply. Both force water through semi-permeable membranes that separate dissolved minerals. A smaller stream of pretreated surficial water, about 1 MGD of the plant's capacity, is blended in. The result is water much softer than the raw groundwater under the village.
Seacoast has also placed in regional water-tasting competitions, which says more about taste than hardness, but it reflects a utility that pays attention to how its water comes out of the tap.
When softening can still make sense
- Restaurants, clubs and marina businesses along US-1 and the waterfront with dishwashers, ice machines or boilers that call for very low hardness.
- A private well used for any household purpose, which bypasses Seacoast's treatment.
- A confirmed scale problem traced to hardness rather than evaporation or a water heater.
Living Water installs ion-exchange softening plants for homes and businesses when testing supports it.
For a business, the equipment maker's water specification usually sets the hardness target. Bring it to the visit and Jorge can compare it with your measured water.
Things mistaken for hard water
White marks on glass, spotted faucets and residue in kettles can come from evaporation, heater sediment or soap. Before you buy equipment, read water spots and scale in North Palm Beach and measure.
A quick check: spots that wipe off with a damp cloth are mostly residue; crusty buildup that needs an acid cleaner points more toward minerals.
Softener vs. conditioner
An ion-exchange softener removes hardness ions; a salt-free conditioner changes how minerals behave without removing them. On membrane-treated water, neither may be needed. Compare salt-free conditioner vs. ion-exchange softener.
A softener does not touch chloramine
The complaint most North Palm Beach residents describe is chloramine taste or smell. Softeners do nothing for that. A carbon-based filter rated for chloramine does. See softener vs. filter in North Palm Beach.
Test before you buy
Jorge measures hardness at your tap during the free in-home test and tells you plainly if a softener is not worth it. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
