One goal, three possible supplies
Whether your bill comes from Oakland Park, Broward County or Fort Lauderdale, the water has been softened and filtered at a treatment plant and disinfected with chloramines. That makes the whole-home question here fairly simple: do you want chloramine out of every tap, or only out of your drinking water? If it is only drinking water, an under-sink RO system may be all you need.
People who choose whole-home filtration in Oakland Park usually mention a chemical smell in hot showers, wanting the same taste from every faucet, or a preference for less disinfectant on skin and hair. Those are comfort choices; the water already meets standards.
What makes chloramine harder to filter
- It is chlorine combined with ammonia, which reacts slowly with ordinary carbon.
- It needs contact time, so the media bed has to be large enough for your peak flow.
- Catalytic carbon or media designed for chloramine works better than standard carbon.
Before buying, check that chloramine reduction is on the exact model's NSF/ANSI 42 listing. More in the Oakland Park chloramine guide.
Sizing for Oakland Park homes
Oakland Park has a mix of 1950s and 1960s ranch houses, newer townhome rows and small multifamily buildings. Sizing depends on:
- Bathrooms and peak demand: two showers plus laundry is the test.
- Where the main enters: often an exterior wall near the meter.
- Room for a bypass valve so you keep water during service.
- Plumbing age: older galvanized sections can add rust after the filter; that is a plumbing fix.
Timing with Fort Lauderdale's new plant
Fort Lauderdale opened its Prospect Lake Clean Water Center in October 2026, replacing Fiveash as its primary plant. Oakland Park city customers and Twin Lakes South homes receive Fort Lauderdale-treated water, so Jorge can test now and again after the change settles to confirm the system still fits. A chloramine-rated filter remains the right tool unless the disinfectant changes, and none of the reports or notices we reviewed describe such a change.
What Living Water installs
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics equipment, including the Clarius iGen and Goodspring lines, which Living Water describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. Many households add an alkaline RO faucet in the kitchen. For pricing factors see filtration cost in Oakland Park. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
