PALMETTO BAY · UNDER-SINK RO

Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis in Palmetto Bay

An under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) system gives you filtered drinking and cooking water from its own faucet. On Palmetto Bay's WASD water, its carbon stages handle the chloramine taste and the membrane lowers dissolved minerals. On a private well, RO is usually the final drinking-water stage after the well's own treatment. Living Water installs a multi-stage alkaline RO under the sink, and Jorge tests your water free first.

On county water

WASD's Orr plant lime-softens, filters and disinfects the water with chloramine before it reaches Palmetto Bay; the 2025 report lists 2.5 ppm of chloramine on the main system. An RO's carbon prefilters reduce that taste and protect the membrane, and the membrane lowers total dissolved solids. The result is water many people compare to bottled, from a dedicated faucet.

RO is also the simplest upgrade for Palmetto Bay families who want to stop buying bottled water but are not ready to treat the whole house. It fits under the sink, serves the tap you actually drink from, and can feed the fridge's ice maker so ice tastes the same as the water. If you also dislike the shower smell, a whole-home filter is a separate decision you can make later.

On a private well

Some Palmetto Bay homes still drink from private wells. RO can be part of a well setup, but it should not be the only treatment: iron, hardness and sulfur foul membranes quickly, and bacteria are a separate question that needs a certified lab test and its own solution. The Florida Department of Health advises well owners to test every year. Read well water in Palmetto Bay and UV vs. RO for well water.

How the stages work

  1. Sediment prefilter.
  2. Carbon suitable for chloramine.
  3. RO membrane for dissolved solids.
  4. Storage and polishing post-filter.
  5. Alkaline stage that adds minerals back and raises pH for taste.

Kitchen install details

  • Cabinet space for the unit and tank.
  • A faucet hole in the sink or counter.
  • A drain connection for reject water. On a septic property, the small reject flow goes to your drain like any other kitchen water; ask about the model's ratio if you want to keep it low.
  • An optional line to the fridge or ice maker.

Certifications

RO systems are certified under NSF/ANSI 58. For specific contaminants such as PFAS, nitrate or fluoride, the exact model's listing must name them. Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. See PFAS and fluoride in Palmetto Bay.

Common questions

Does RO remove chloramine?

The carbon stages handle chloramine; make sure they are suitable for it. The membrane lowers dissolved solids.

Can RO treat well water by itself?

It is usually the last stage. Iron, hardness and odor should be treated first, and bacteria need a lab test.

Will RO affect my septic system?

An under-sink RO sends a small stream to the drain. Ask about the model's ratio if you want to minimize it.

Can I connect the fridge?

Usually, with an added line.

Is alkaline RO healthier?

Living Water makes no health claim; the alkaline stage raises pH for taste.
