What we can and cannot say
Dry skin has many causes: hot water, long showers, soaps, sun, air conditioning and individual skin conditions. We make no medical claims. We can measure your water and explain what equipment changes, so you can decide whether trying it is worthwhile.
By water source
| Source | Likely comfort factor | Option |
|---|---|---|
| NSID | Chloramine; minerals already low | Whole-home chloramine filter |
| Coconut Creek (Broward County) | Chloramine; softened at the plant | Whole-home chloramine filter |
| Private well | Hardness, iron, sometimes sulfur | Well system with softening |
Most Parkland homes are on public water, so chloramine is the comfort factor most people can actually change. If you are not sure which source you have, your bill or the city's Water Utilities page will tell you.
The July factor
NSID customers sometimes notice the strongest chlorine smell in July, when NSID and the Coral Springs-area providers temporarily change their chlorination method; in 2026 that ran July 13 to 27. If your skin or hair complaints line up with those weeks, the disinfectant is a reasonable suspect. If they are the same all year, look at other factors too.
Some households also notice it more after a long trip, when they return to a hot shower right away; small changes like that are easy to test for yourself before buying anything.
Habits that matter as much as the water
- Shorter, cooler showers.
- Gentle, fragrance-free cleansers.
- Moisturizing right after drying off.
- A dermatologist for persistent itching, rash or eczema.
Water temperature matters more than many people expect: very hot water strips natural oils faster, and in South Florida a slightly cooler shower is often more comfortable anyway. A bathroom fan that clears steam quickly also reduces how much disinfectant smell lingers.
Shower filter or whole-home system?
Small shower filters have little contact time, which chloramine needs, so results vary by model; check that the listing mentions chloramine. In a large Parkland home with several bathrooms, a whole-home system covers every shower at once. On a well, softening is part of a well system configured from the test.
In a home with a private well, softening is usually one stage among several, chosen after iron and sulfur are understood. Adding a softener alone can leave other comfort issues untouched.
What a test shows
Jorge measures chloramine, hardness, pH, TDS and iron where relevant, and explains them plainly. If the numbers do not point to the water, he will say so. Call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
