Three things to look at
- Temperature and time: long, hot showers dry skin on any water.
- Products: soaps and shampoos vary in how they rinse.
- Water: chloramine level, and hardness if a test shows it.
What is in Pembroke Park's shower water
Hollywood lime-softens, membrane-filters and RO-treats the water, then adds chloramines. So the water reaching your shower is generally soft, with a disinfectant residual. If you want to change something about the water for comfort, the chloramine is the realistic target.
Jorge's test gives the chloramine number at your tap, which is the same water your shower gets. That tells you whether there is something meaningful to change.
Options
- Whole-home filtration for chloramine. See whole-home filtration.
- Shower filters: check that the exact model lists chloramine.
- Habits: cooler, shorter showers; moisturizing after.
Our limits
We do not claim that filtration treats any skin condition. Eczema, psoriasis, rashes or persistent itching are for a dermatologist or your doctor.
Try it, then judge
If you install a filter, give it a few weeks and change only one thing at a time, so you can tell whether it helped. Jorge can measure chloramine before and after so you know the water actually changed.
Water heater settings
Water heaters often leave the factory or installer set warmer than a household needs. Turning it down the temperature a little reduces scald risk and makes long hot showers less tempting. It costs nothing and helps many people's comfort. If you also want chloramine reduced, a whole-home filter treats water before it reaches the heater.
Children and sensitive skin
For questions about bathing babies or managing sensitive skin, ask your pediatrician or dermatologist first. After that, Jorge can cover the water side in plain words.
Time in a pool exposes skin to much stronger disinfectant levels than tap water. If your skin feels worst after swimming, rinsing promptly and moisturizing matter more than anything in your home's water.
