Four options compared
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Pitcher | Renters on a tight budget | Small filter, frequent changes, chlorine-only claims |
| Fridge filter | Cold water and ice | Check the cartridge for a chloramine claim |
| Under-sink alkaline RO | Drinking, cooking, coffee, formula | Needs cabinet space and a drain connection |
| Whole-home filter | Every tap and shower, homeowners | Does not lower dissolved solids like RO |
What Sweetwater's water calls for
WASD supplies all public water in Sweetwater. Its 2025 report lists chloramine at 2.5 ppm and sodium at 33 ppm in the main system, notes that fluoride has not been added since June 6, 2025, and includes a separate PFAS monitoring table. For most families, the drinking water goal is taste without the disinfectant, and fewer dissolved minerals if they prefer that.
Choosing in four questions
- Do you rent? Under-sink RO with the owner's approval, or a certified pitcher.
- Do you buy bottled water? RO is the closest replacement. Try the bottled water vs. RO calculator.
- Bothered in the shower too? Add a whole-home system if you own.
- A specific contaminant? Pick a model certified for it and check the listing. See PFAS filters.
Why alkaline RO is a common pick
Living Water's alkaline RO uses multiple stages, a dedicated faucet and a final stage that adds minerals back for taste. It is made for homes, offices, apartments and gyms. See alkaline vs. standard RO.
For small offices and shops
The city counts more than 600 businesses. An under-sink RO in a break room or behind a counter gives staff and customers drinking water without bottle deliveries. The same questions apply: certification, filter schedule and where the faucet goes.
What about bottled water delivery?
Delivery jugs and cases are convenient but mean storage, lifting and recurring orders. RO at the tap trades that for a filter schedule. Neither is wrong; it depends on how much your household drinks and how much space you have. Run your own numbers before deciding.
Before you buy
- What does this exact model's certification list?
- How often do filters change?
- Where do the faucet and drain go?
- Can it feed the fridge?
