What the reports show
| System | Fluoride listed | Sample date |
|---|---|---|
| West (city plant) | 0.64 ppm | February 2023 |
| East (Fort Lauderdale water) | 0.699 ppm (range 0.612 to 0.699) | April 2023 |
Those samples predate the state law. The 4.0 ppm figure in the tables is the federal maximum. Check the next report for post-change results.
The change in Florida law
Florida's 2025 SB 700 prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. The West Tamarac report marks its fluoridation step "to be terminated in July 2025." Note that the city's older water FAQ still describes fluoride at about 0.8 mg/L; the report is the more recent document.
Options if you want less fluoride
- Reverse osmosis is a common method. Look for an NSF/ANSI 58 listing that includes fluoride for the exact model.
- Standard carbon filters generally are not designed for fluoride.
- Whole-home fluoride reduction is uncommon; most people treat drinking and cooking water only.
A neutral note
This page does not take a position on fluoride and health. For questions about fluoride and your teeth or your family's health, ask your dentist or doctor.
Why East and West differ
East Tamarac buys water from the City of Fort Lauderdale, so the fluoride practice that applies there is Fort Lauderdale's. The same 2025 state law applies statewide, but the East report text still describes the water as "fluoridated" in its general treatment description. If you want certainty for your address, call the number on your report.
Also note that RO reduces many dissolved minerals at once, not fluoride alone, which is why some people prefer alkaline RO that adds minerals back for taste.
Fluoride and whole-home systems
Living Water's whole-home city water systems are described as removing chloramine and chlorine, not fluoride. If fluoride is your concern, a drinking water RO is the usual route.
Whichever you choose, keep the filter schedule; a spent cartridge does not perform like a new one, and certification claims only hold within the rated capacity.
Testing
If fluoride is your main question, a certified lab test gives a precise number. Jorge can help you read it and choose a system. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
