Why RO fits so many Tamarac homes
Tamarac has many condos, villas and townhomes. Many of them cannot add a whole-home tank, and many households mostly care about what they drink, not the shower. An under-sink system fits in the kitchen cabinet and leaves the building's plumbing alone.
How it handles Tamarac's water
Both Tamarac systems disinfect with chloramine (2025 averages: 2.73 ppm West, 2.15 ppm East). Chloramine can damage some RO membranes, so a good system protects the membrane with carbon pre-filters rated for it. The stages in a typical system:
- Sediment pre-filter.
- Carbon pre-filters for chlorine and chloramine.
- The reverse osmosis membrane, which reduces dissolved solids.
- A post-filter and, in Living Water's alkaline model, a remineralization stage that raises pH.
See the compact alkaline RO product page.
Alkaline or standard RO?
Standard RO water is low in minerals and slightly acidic. Alkaline RO adds back minerals for taste. Neither is a health treatment; it is a preference. The alkaline vs. standard RO comparison explains the trade-offs.
Certifications to check
If you want RO for a specific contaminant such as lead, PFOA/PFOS or fluoride, look for the exact model's listing under NSF/ANSI 58 for that contaminant. Performance claims apply only to the listed model, under its rated conditions. Jorge will show you how to check a listing, including for anything he recommends.
What installation looks like
- Space under the kitchen sink for the filter housing and storage tank, or a tankless unit.
- A hole for the dedicated faucet in the sink or countertop.
- A drain connection and a cold water supply.
- Optional line to the refrigerator.
In condos, nothing outside the unit changes. Jorge confirms cabinet space and water pressure during the free test.
East or West, same approach
Whether your water comes from the city plant west of US 441 or from Fort Lauderdale east of NW 31st Avenue, the RO approach is the same: protect the membrane from chloramine, size the system for your household, and keep up with the filter schedule. What can differ is TDS and hardness, which affect how long a membrane lasts. Jorge measures both before recommending a model.
Upkeep
Pre-filters and post-filters are changed on a schedule, and the membrane less often, depending on your water and use. Jorge explains the schedule up front. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
