The stages
- Sediment: traps particles.
- Carbon: reduces chloramine, which WASD reports at a 2.5 ppm main-system average, before it reaches the membrane.
- Membrane: lowers dissolved solids such as sodium and remaining minerals.
- Post-filter and alkaline: polishes taste and remineralizes.
Chloramine is slower to break down than free chlorine, so the carbon stage in a West Miami system does real work. A good design gives it enough carbon and contact time, and the schedule replaces it before chloramine reaches the membrane.
Why West Miami households choose RO
- One faucet for drinking, coffee, baby bottles and ice.
- No more cases of bottled water.
- Older plumbing: West Miami's 2023 tap monitoring found 0 of 67 homes above the lead or copper action levels, but every home's fixtures differ. For lead claims, trust only a model certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for lead reduction.
RO also lowers sodium, which WASD's main system lists at 33 ppm, and other dissolved minerals. Living Water's alkaline stage then adds some minerals back, which many people prefer for taste over plain RO water.
What installation needs
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cabinet space | Tank or compact unit |
| Faucet | Existing sink hole or countertop drilling |
| Drain | Connection on the sink drain |
| Fridge line | Optional |
| Pressure | Low pressure may call for a booster |
See the compact alkaline RO.
Living Water installs the systems it sells, including the faucet, drain connection and any fridge line. Jorge also checks water pressure, since RO membranes need adequate pressure to produce water efficiently.
Certifications
RO systems are certified under NSF/ANSI 58, and every claim (lead, arsenic, fluoride, PFAS, dissolved solids) applies only to the exact listed model with filters changed on schedule. Ask to see listings for any system, ours included. Read alkaline vs. standard RO.
Upkeep
The carbon pre-filter works hardest on chloramine water, so its interval matters most. Jorge gives you every interval and part number before you buy; cost factors are on RO cost in West Miami.
A dissolved-solids reading at each service visit confirms the membrane still performs. If the RO number creeps toward the tap number, it is time for a change.
