What the reports show
- 2025 report: fluoride of 0.61 ppm, sampled January 2025, with a maximum contaminant level of 4 ppm.
- 2024 report: fluoride of 0.089 ppm, sampled January 2024.
Both samples were taken before Florida's 2025 law took effect. The 2025 report, published June 2026, is the latest available at the time of writing. For the city's current practice, call Public Utilities at (561) 822-2210 or watch for the next report at wpb.org/WaterReport.
Florida's 2025 law in brief
SB 700, passed by the Florida Legislature in 2025, prohibits adding anything to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. The Senate bill summary lists July 1, 2025 as the effective date for those provisions. Fluoride added for dental health falls under that rule. Naturally occurring fluoride in source water is a separate matter and still shows up in testing.
Lake water vs. aquifer water
West Palm Beach is one of the few South Florida cities on surface water, drawing from Clear Lake after the water travels from Grassy Waters Preserve. Neighbors like Boca Raton draw from the Biscayne Aquifer and report naturally occurring fluoride in their own reports. Comparing cities only makes sense if you compare the same year and the same kind of sample, so stick to your own utility's report.
Reducing fluoride at home
- Reverse osmosis is the most common household method. See under-sink RO in West Palm Beach.
- Standard carbon filters, including most pitchers, fridge filters and whole-home carbon systems, are generally not designed for fluoride.
- Look for the exact model's certification for fluoride reduction, typically under NSF/ANSI 58 for RO.
The alkaline stage on Living Water's RO systems adds minerals for taste; it does not add fluoride.
Fluoride from other sources
Tap water is not the only place fluoride shows up. Many toothpastes contain it, and some bottled waters do too, which their labels or manufacturers can confirm. If you are trying to understand your household's total exposure, look at all of these, not just the tap. For the tap itself, the city's annual report is the official record, and it changes from year to year as sampling dates and treatment practices change.
Health questions
Whether fluoride matters for your family is a question for your doctor or dentist. Jorge can show you what is in your tap and how RO works, without pushing either way.
