What the in-home test covers
- Total and free chlorine, which shows the chloramine residual.
- Hardness.
- TDS (total dissolved solids).
- pH.
- Iron, if you see stains or have a well.
It is a screening, not a lab analysis. See home screening vs. lab analysis.
How to read the county report
Broward County's 2025 report covers four districts in one set of tables: 1A, 2A, 3A and 3BC. West Park customers should read the 3BC column. The report notes that 3A and 3BC water is supplied by the City of Hollywood. For 3BC in 2025 it lists chlorine at 3.1 ppm, fluoride at 0.12 ppm and sodium at 33.5 ppm. For copies, the county lists its Water and Wastewater Operations Division at 954-831-0810.
When to go to a lab
- Bacteria, especially on a private well.
- Lead, if you have old plumbing or fixtures.
- PFAS or other specific contaminants.
The Florida Department of Health's private well page links to certified labs.
Why your tap may differ from the report
The county reports system-wide results. Your reading depends on how far water travels to your street, how long it sits in your pipes and the condition of your plumbing and water heater. A home that has been empty for a while can read differently on the first draw.
What happens during the visit
Jorge tests at your kitchen tap, shows each number and compares it with the 3BC column. Read what happens during a home water assessment.
What to have ready
- A recent Broward County water bill, which confirms you are a WWS customer.
- A list of what bothers you: taste, smell, spots, stains, skin comfort.
- Details on any existing filters, softeners or wells.
- The age of your water heater, if you know it.
Do not run the tap long before Jorge arrives; he flushes and samples on site so you see both readings.
If you want a lab test
The Florida Department of Health links to certified laboratories from its private well testing page. Labs can test for bacteria, lead, nitrate, PFAS and more, depending on what you request. Jorge can help you decide what is worth testing based on your home and what you have noticed.
