The City of West Park's FAQ answers "How do I turn on water service?" with Broward County WWS at 954-831-3250, 2555 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach. The county's water service area map shows virtually all of the city inside District 3BC.
Where the water starts
Hollywood's 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report says the city pumps groundwater from both the Biscayne Aquifer and the deeper Floridan Aquifer. The Biscayne water is treated with lime softening and membrane filtration; the Floridan water, which is brackish, is treated with reverse osmosis. Water from both sources is disinfected with chloramines. In 2025 the state's source water assessment for Hollywood's wells identified 16 potential sources of contamination with low to moderate susceptibility.
The blend matters for what you taste. Water that went through reverse osmosis carries very few minerals, and lime-softened water carries more, so the mix leaving the plant reflects both. Broward County then keeps a chloramine residual in it on the way to your street. When Jorge tests a West Park tap, he is looking at the end of that chain: what Hollywood made, what the county pipes added or took away, and what your own plumbing does.
What the county reports for District 3BC
- Disinfectant: chlorine (as chloramines) at 3.1 ppm in 2025, against a maximum residual level of 4.0.
- Fluoride: 0.12 ppm. Hollywood ended fluoride addition on July 1, 2025.
- Sodium: 33.5 ppm.
- Disinfection byproducts: HAA5 at 14.9 ppb and TTHM at 14.2 ppb, under limits of 60 and 80.
- Lead and copper: 90th percentile lead of 1.00 ppb with no sites over the action level.
- Service lines: Broward County says its inventory identified 100% of its service lines as non-lead.
The same county report covers four districts in shared tables, so read the 3BC column. The county's Water Services page also posts notices about free chlorination periods by district, which can briefly change taste and smell.
Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Miami Gardens and Utopia
The city's history page describes West Park as a municipality created on March 1, 2005, made up of the neighborhoods of Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Miami Gardens and Utopia. All of them sit inside the same county water district, so the water at your tap starts the same way. What differs from home to home is plumbing age, water heaters, and whether a property has a well for irrigation. That is why Jorge tests at your own faucet.
What fits a West Park home
- Single-family home: a whole-home city water system for chloramine at every tap, with under-sink alkaline RO for drinking water if you want it.
- Apartment or rental: under-sink RO, or a certified pitcher if you cannot modify plumbing.
- Church, school, restaurant or shop: an ion-exchange softening plant only where equipment needs it and testing supports it. See water softeners.
- Property with a well: a well water system configured from the well's test.
Not sure which system you need? Start with the problem you notice. A pool smell points to chloramine; spots on glass point to drying minerals; stains outside point to a sprinkler well. Each topic below explains what to test and what usually fixes it.
Every West Park topic
Systems: whole-home filtration, water softeners, under-sink RO, best drinking water system, softener vs. filter.
Problems: chlorine and chloramine, rotten-egg smell, orange stains, hard water spots, dry skin after showering, PFAS, fluoride, well water.
Costs: filtration, reverse osmosis, softener. Testing: home water testing.
