What arrives at your meter
Hollywood's plant lime-softens and membrane-filters Biscayne Aquifer water and runs brackish Floridan Aquifer water through reverse osmosis. Then chloramines are added so the water stays disinfected through miles of county pipe. That residual is intentional and within limits. A whole-home system removes it after the meter, so you get its benefit in the pipes and not in your shower.
Why carbon type matters
Chloramine is chlorine bonded with ammonia, and it reacts more slowly with ordinary carbon than chlorine does. A whole-home system for 3BC water needs media designed for chloramine and enough of it for your peak flow. Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring city water systems as removing chloramine and chlorine. See the city water system.
What Jorge checks before quoting
- Total and free chlorine at your tap, so the system matches your actual residual.
- Main line size and location, often at the front of the house in West Park's single-family streets.
- Space, bypass and drain for installation and future service.
- Hardness, so you do not buy softening the plant already did.
Older homes
Parts of West Park were built long before the city was incorporated in 2005. In an older home, a whole-home filter improves the water entering the house, but it cannot fix aging pipes inside the walls. If you see rust-colored water from only some fixtures, that is a plumbing question. Broward County says its service lines are non-lead; the plumbing on your side of the meter is yours to check.
Pairing with drinking water
Many families add an under-sink alkaline RO in the kitchen for drinking and cooking. Compare the two on whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
Maintenance to expect
Whole-home media is replaced on a schedule that depends on your water use and the chloramine level, with a sediment pre-filter that may need more frequent changes. Ask for the schedule and replacement parts list in writing, and keep the bypass valve accessible so service is quick. See annual ownership costs.
