What usually drives the number
- System type: whole-home, under-sink RO, or both.
- Chloramine level and flow: District 3BC reported 3.1 ppm in 2025; a system sized for your peak flow and that level has more media.
- Main line access: where your line enters and how much space there is.
- Plumbing condition: older homes sometimes need extra fittings or valves.
- Options: alkaline stage, fridge line, tankless RO.
What you can probably leave out
Hollywood lime-softens, membrane-filters and RO-treats the water before it enters the county system. If a quote for a West Park home on county water includes a softener, ask to see the measured hardness that justifies it. Often it is not needed.
A quote that lists fewer, correctly sized parts is often better value than a long list of stages your water does not need.
What a good quote lists
- Exact model numbers and what each is certified for.
- Installation work, parts and any permits.
- Replacement filters and schedule.
- Warranty in writing.

Ownership costs
Ask what replacement media costs and how often it is needed at your chloramine level and household size. A cheaper system with expensive or frequent cartridges can cost more over time. Read the annual ownership guide.
Small businesses
For restaurants, churches with kitchens, salons and offices, the quote depends on daily water use and which fixtures and equipment need treated water. Jorge tests and lists exactly what the system serves.
How to compare two quotes
Line them up by what they treat, not by the total. One quote may cover every tap with a whole-home system; another may cover only the kitchen. Check whether each lists exact model numbers, certifications, installation, filters and warranty. If a quote cannot say what it is certified to reduce, ask before signing. See how to compare water treatment quotes.
