What arrives at your Westlake meter
SID's water is pumped from wells about 150 feet deep in the surficial aquifer and treated at PBCWUD plants, whose processes include lime softening and ion exchange, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Chloramine is added before it leaves the plant to keep it protected all the way through SID's pipes. By the time it reaches your house, it meets all federal, state and local standards, according to SID. A whole-home system is a comfort and taste upgrade on top of that.
Why chloramine changes the equipment
Chloramine is chlorine bonded to ammonia. It lasts longer in the pipes than free chlorine, which is why utilities use it, and that same stability makes it harder for ordinary carbon to reduce. Systems built for chloramine typically use catalytic carbon and enough media volume to give the water contact time at your peak flow. An undersized filter lets more through when several showers run at once.
Living Water's city water systems, the Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring, are described by Living Water as removing chlorine and chloramine.
Sizing for a Westlake home
- Bathrooms and people set peak flow.
- Main line location: many newer homes have the main entering at the garage, which makes installation straightforward.
- Drain and power for backwashing models.
- Irrigation: if your sprinklers run on reclaimed water, they are on a separate system and are not part of this install.
Flush weeks and your filter
During SID's periodic chlorine flushes, such as July 5 to 25, 2026, the water carries a slightly higher chlorine level for a few weeks. A properly sized whole-home system handles that, and you are likely to notice the flush less at the tap. It is also a good reminder to check that media and cartridges are on schedule.
Adding softening or RO
SID does not publish hardness, so whether you need a softener depends on a test at your tap. For drinking and cooking water, many homes add under-sink RO. Compare in whole-house filtration vs. RO.
