AVENTURA · DRINKING WATER

Best Drinking Water System for an Aventura Home

For most Aventura condos and homes, an under-sink alkaline reverse osmosis system is the most complete drinking-water option: it fits in the kitchen cabinet, uses carbon pre-filters for NMB Water's chloramine, and delivers RO water from its own faucet. A pitcher or fridge filter is simpler but more limited, and a whole-home system, practical only where you control the main line, is aimed at every tap rather than drinking water specifically. The best choice depends on your test results and how you live.

Start from what NMB Water delivers

NMB Water treats Biscayne Aquifer water with lime softening or nanofiltration and brackish Floridan Aquifer water with reverse osmosis, blends them, and disinfects with chloramine. Its 2025 report says the water met or was better than all state and federal drinking water standards. So a home drinking-water system in Aventura is about taste, odor and personal preference, plus any specific concern for which you choose a certified product. Jorge's free test measures chloramine and dissolved solids at your tap.

The options compared

OptionGood forWatch out for
PitcherNo installation, renters, small householdsMany rated for chlorine only; small capacity; frequent refills
Refrigerator filterCold water on demandShort contact time; replacement often forgotten; check for a chloramine rating
Faucet-mountQuick to addBulky on designer faucets; slows flow
Under-sink alkaline ROMulti-stage treatment, dedicated faucet, minerals added back for tasteNeeds cabinet space, a drain connection and installation
Whole-home systemEvery tap and shower in a house or townhomeNot practical in most condo units; not a drinking-water specialist

Matching the option to your home

  • High-rise condo owner: under-sink RO is the usual choice, within your association's rules.
  • Renter: start with a chloramine-rated pitcher, or ask your landlord about RO.
  • Townhome or house: RO in the kitchen, optionally with whole-home filtration for showers.
  • Specific contaminant concern: choose a model certified for that contaminant under NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 and check its listing.

Questions worth asking before you buy

  • Which certifications does this exact model carry, and for which claims?
  • Is it rated for chloramine, not only chlorine?
  • How often is each filter replaced, and what does a change involve?
  • How much water goes to the drain per gallon produced?
  • Does the faucet fit my countertop and sink, and will my building allow the installation?

Clear answers make it easy to compare a pitcher, a fridge filter and an RO system on the same terms.

About the alkaline stage

Living Water's under-sink units add a remineralization stage after the membrane, which raises pH and returns some minerals. Many people prefer the taste. That is the whole claim; we do not make health claims about alkaline water. If you prefer standard RO, read alkaline vs. standard RO.

If you are away part of the year

Any filter that sits unused for months is worth attention when you return. With RO, that usually means draining the tank and running fresh water through before drinking, and possibly a filter change. With a pitcher or fridge filter, start a new cartridge. Ask about this before you buy so the upkeep fits your schedule.

Common questions

What is the best drinking water system for a condo?

Under-sink alkaline RO is the most common choice because it stays in your kitchen cabinet and does not touch the building's plumbing.

Is a fridge filter enough?

It can improve taste. Check its certification for chloramine and replace it on schedule.

Is alkaline water better for you?

We do not make that claim. The alkaline stage is about taste and mineral content.

Do I need whole-home filtration for good drinking water?

No. RO handles drinking water on its own; whole-home is for showers and all other taps.

Can I get a test first?

Yes. Jorge's in-home water test is free and has no obligation.
