Spots without much hardness
- Dissolved salts: sodium and other solids leave a light film when water evaporates.
- Residual hardness: softening reduces hardness without taking it to zero, and the blend can shift with the season.
- Old scale: water heaters and fixtures can hold deposits from years ago or from a previous well.
- Sprinkler overspray: irrigation well water on windows leaves mineral and iron spots unrelated to your tap.
Match the spot to the fix
| What you see | Most useful fix |
|---|---|
| Film on shower glass | Squeegee and ventilation |
| Spots on dishwasher glasses | Rinse aid; dishwasher settings |
| Crust on shower heads | Descale; test hardness |
| Spots on outside windows | Re-aim sprinklers; see iron stains |
| Measured high hardness | A softener sized from the number |
Softener or conditioner
An ion-exchange softener removes hardness minerals; a salt-free conditioner changes how they behave. With low measured hardness you may need neither. Compare salt-free conditioner vs. ion-exchange softener. Living Water installs ion-exchange softening plants when a measured number supports one.
Businesses
Restaurants, cafes, laundries and car washes feel even modest hardness over thousands of cycles. Use the equipment maker's water specification and a measured hardness to decide. See softeners in Boynton Beach.
Water heaters, kettles and coffee makers
Appliances that heat water concentrate whatever minerals are present. A kettle or coffee maker may show scale even when glassware looks fine. Descaling every few months is normal maintenance. If a tank water heater makes popping or rumbling sounds, sediment has built up; an annual flush helps, and the scale inside may date from before the MIEX upgrade in 2017 or from a previous well.
Cleaning and prevention
Diluted white vinegar loosens mineral spots on glass and chrome; avoid acids on marble, travertine and other natural stone. Soak shower heads and aerators a few times a year. Drying shower glass after use prevents most spots. Flush the water heater per the manufacturer's instructions to clear sediment.
Get your number
Jorge tests hardness and dissolved solids at your tap and tells you plainly if a softener is not worth it. Because the supply blend can shift between the dry and rainy seasons, a second test months later is easy to arrange. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
