Hardness is probably not the issue
In many places, people blame hard water for dry skin. Cooper City is different: its membrane softening removes most hardness before the water reaches you. That leaves the disinfectant as the main water factor to look at, plus things that have nothing to do with the water, like shower temperature and soap.
The chlorine residual
The city chlorinates for disinfection, with a 2025 average of 1.9 ppm and results from 1.4 to 2.6. During maintenance periods, such as the free chlorination the city ran in 2025, the smell can be stronger for a while. Many people associate that smell with how their skin and hair feel after a shower.
If you moved from an area with hard water, you may notice the opposite of what you expected: softer-feeling water but a more noticeable chlorine smell. Both are normal for Cooper City.
What a test shows
Jorge tests total and free chlorine and hardness at your shower or nearest tap. If chlorine is the notable reading and hardness is low, a filter is the logical comfort step. If you are on a well, hardness may matter more, and the answer changes.
Comfort options
- Whole-home filtration: treats every shower with media sized for your flow. Living Water describes its Puronics systems as removing chlorine and chloramine. See whole-home filtration in Cooper City.
- Shower-head filter: small and simple, but short contact time limits what it can do. Check the exact product's claims.
- Habits: shorter, cooler showers and moisturizing right after are free to try.
Hair can also feel different with chlorine in the water. A filter changes the water, not your hair care routine, so give any change a few weeks before judging it.
Comfort, not a cure
A filter changes how the water smells and feels. It does not treat eczema, psoriasis or any skin condition. If you have a skin problem, a dermatologist is the right person to see.
