RO at the plant, RO at the sink: the difference
The Town of Davie's System V plant uses reverse osmosis on Floridan Aquifer water, then aerates it and disinfects it. The 2025 report lists a chloramine residual averaging 3.2 ppm in the distribution system. That residual, plus anything the water picks up in pipes on the way to your home, is what an under-sink unit deals with at the one tap where you drink and cook.
Living Water's under-sink systems are multi-stage alkaline RO units with a dedicated faucet, for homes, offices, apartments and gyms. See the compact alkaline RO page.
Who in Davie chooses under-sink RO
- Renters and condo owners who cannot install equipment on the main line.
- Students and staff housing around the university campuses in Davie, where a compact unit fits under a standard sink.
- Homes with a whole-home system that want a dedicated drinking-water faucet in the kitchen.
- Offices and gyms that want a drinking-water station without buying bottles.
What the installer checks
- Cabinet space for the stages and any tank.
- A spot on the sink or counter for the dedicated faucet.
- A drain connection, since RO sends some water to the drain as it works.
- Water pressure, which affects how the unit performs.
- An optional line to the refrigerator or ice maker.
Wells are different
If your Davie property is on a private well, an under-sink RO unit is not a replacement for well treatment. Well water should be tested and treated as a whole system first; see well water treatment in Davie. Any RO unit used for a specific contaminant must be certified for it under NSF/ANSI 58; check the exact model's listing.
Alkaline or standard RO?
Standard RO produces very low-mineral water. Alkaline models add a remineralization stage after the membrane, which many people prefer for taste. See alkaline vs. standard RO, and what drives RO cost in Davie.
