Who supplies your water in Davie
The Town's 2025 Water Quality Report says it plainly: the Town of Davie provides water and sewer service to a portion of the Town, and other portions are served by other municipalities or private utility companies. The Town's utility map lists these providers inside town limits:
- Town of Davie Utilities (954-327-3742)
- City of Sunrise Utilities, which the Town's comprehensive plan says serves the western portion of Davie through an interlocal agreement
- Cooper City Utilities
- City of Hollywood Utilities
- Broward County Utilities
- Ferncrest Utilities, a private utility
- An area that receives Fort Lauderdale water through a bulk agreement with Davie
To confirm yours, enter your address on the Town's Utility Service Area map, or simply look at who sends your water bill. Each provider publishes its own Water Quality Report, and the details below apply to Town of Davie Utilities customers.
Town of Davie water: two plants, one running in 2025
The Town owns two water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 10.0 million gallons a day:
- System V, a reverse osmosis plant commissioned in 2014. It draws from the deep Floridan Aquifer; membranes remove high concentrations of salts, then the water is aerated and disinfected.
- System III, a lime-softening plant with anion exchange for color removal, drawing from the shallow Biscayne Aquifer.
According to the 2025 report, System III was inactive during 2025 and all drinking water came from System V. That matters for your home: reverse osmosis at the plant already removes most of the minerals that cause hardness, so Town of Davie customers often find a softener is not the first thing they need.
Disinfectant and fluoride, in plain terms
The report describes disinfection with sodium hypochlorite, and its results table lists the residual in the pipes as chloramines: an average of 3.2 parts per million, with results from 1.0 to 4.0, against a maximum residual level of 4.0. That residual is what most people notice as a pool-like taste or smell at the kitchen sink and in the shower.
Fluoride: the report lists 0.77 ppm from an April 2025 sample. Florida's Senate Bill 700 barred adding fluoride and other health-related additives to public water starting July 1, 2025, and the report's description of the System V process lists aeration and disinfection without a fluoridation step. See fluoride filters in Davie for neutral details.
Town water, neighbor water or a well: what fits
- Town of Davie or another utility, single-family home: a whole-home system for chloramine at every tap, often paired with under-sink alkaline RO for drinking water.
- Apartment or condo near Nova Drive or University Drive: under-sink RO alone is usually the practical choice.
- Western acreage on a private well: a well treatment system configured from that well's own test, since well water skips utility treatment.
- Horse property, nursery or business: softening plants and well systems sized to real daily use; see softeners in Davie.
Common Davie water complaints
- Chlorine or chloramine taste and smell
- Rotten-egg smell, from a well or a water heater's anode rod
- Orange and rust stains on walls, fences and pool decks from irrigation wells
- Spots and scale on glass and fixtures
- Dry, tight-feeling skin after showering
- Questions about PFAS and fluoride
Each has a different cause and a different fix, which is why Jorge tests before recommending anything.
What filtration is, and is not, for
Utility water in Davie is treated and monitored to meet drinking water standards. Home filtration does not replace that. It changes how water tastes, smells and behaves at your taps, and on a private well it takes over the treatment a utility would normally do. For any specific contaminant, a system must be certified for it under the relevant NSF/ANSI standard, so always check the exact model's listing.
