What a test can tell you
- Chloramine level at your shower or nearest tap.
- Hardness, which affects how soap lathers and rinses.
- pH and dissolved solids.
On Town of Davie water, hardness is usually low because the water is produced by reverse osmosis at the System V plant, so chloramine is often the bigger comfort factor. On a well, hardness can be the larger one.
Chloramine as a comfort factor
Chloramine is a disinfectant kept in utility water on purpose. In a hot shower, some people notice its smell and describe their skin and hair as feeling drier. Removing it at the point of entry with a chloramine-rated whole-home system treats every shower in the house. Living Water describes its Puronics whole-home systems as removing chlorine and chloramine.
Hardness as a comfort factor
Hard water leaves mineral residue and makes soap harder to rinse, which some people feel as a film on skin or dull hair. If a Davie well test shows hardness, a softener is one way to change that; see softeners in Davie. On Town water, a softener is usually unnecessary.
Davie homes with more than one water source
Some Davie acreage properties have utility water in the house and a well for the barn, pool or irrigation. If you shower in a guest house or pool cabana fed by a well, that water may feel very different from the main house. Jorge can test each supply on the same visit so you know which one is behind the complaint.
Other things worth trying
- Shorter, slightly cooler showers.
- Fragrance-free soap and moisturizing right after showering.
- Checking whether the water heater temperature is set very high.
These do not cost anything and help you see whether the water is really the cause. If the difference is clear when you shower somewhere else, such as a gym or a relative's home on different water, that is a useful clue to share during the test.
When to see a doctor
Persistent itching, rashes or eczema-like symptoms should be checked by a dermatologist. Living Waters makes no medical claims; water treatment is about comfort and preference, not treating skin conditions.
