Why chloramine is the main target
Town of Davie water left its System V plant in 2025 after reverse osmosis, aeration and disinfection. The disinfectant residual reported in the pipes was chloramines, from 1.0 to 4.0 ppm with an average of 3.2. That residual is there on purpose, to keep water protected on its way to you. Once it reaches your home, many people prefer to take it out.
Living Water describes its Puronics whole-home systems for city water, Clarius iGen and Goodspring, as removing chlorine and chloramine. See the city water system page and the chloramine filter guide.
If another utility serves your street
Large parts of Davie get water from Sunrise, Cooper City, Hollywood, Broward County, Ferncrest Utilities or Fort Lauderdale water through a bulk agreement. Those utilities run their own plants and publish their own reports, so the disinfectant level and hardness can differ from Town of Davie water. Jorge measures what actually comes out of your tap instead of assuming, and the sizing follows that result.
What sizing depends on in a Davie home
- Peak flow: the number of bathrooms and how many showers run at once.
- Where the main line enters: many Davie ranch-style homes have the line and hose bibs on the side yard, which affects where the system goes and whether outdoor spigots are bypassed.
- Irrigation: lawn water usually stays unfiltered, since there is no reason to treat it.
- Space and drain: some configurations need a drain and electrical outlet nearby.
Whole-home plus drinking water
A whole-home system handles chloramine at every tap. Many families still want a dedicated drinking-water faucet in the kitchen, which is where under-sink alkaline reverse osmosis comes in. See whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis for how the two work together.
When a whole-home city system is the wrong fit
If your property is on a private well, which the Town's planning documents note for some western areas, a city water system is not the right tool. Well water skips utility treatment and needs a system configured from the well's own test. Start with well water treatment in Davie.
For any specific contaminant, a filter must be certified for that contaminant under the relevant NSF/ANSI standard; check the exact model's listing.
