The four options side by side
| Option | Strengths | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Pitcher filter | No install, portable | Small batches, frequent cartridge changes, limited reduction claims |
| Refrigerator filter | Already built in | Only treats fridge water and ice; check the model's certifications |
| Under-sink alkaline RO | Multi-stage treatment at a dedicated faucet; enough for drinking and cooking | Needs cabinet space and a drain connection; some water goes to the drain |
| Whole-home filter | Treats chloramine at every tap and shower | Designed for taste and odor, not the same polishing as RO |
What Doral's water means for the choice
Doral's water comes from Miami-Dade WASD, pumped from the Biscayne Aquifer, treated at the Hialeah and John E. Preston plants and disinfected with chloramine. It is treated to meet drinking water standards. What most people want to change is taste, especially the chloramine, and some want specific reductions. WASD also stopped adding fluoride in June 2025, so if fluoride was your reason for considering RO, read fluoride filters in Doral first. For PFAS, see PFAS filters; choose by certification listing.
By home type
- Condo or apartment: an under-sink alkaline RO fits inside the kitchen cabinet and needs no building approval for outdoor equipment.
- Townhome: RO in the kitchen, plus a whole-home filter if the HOA allows equipment near the main line.
- Single-family home: a whole-home system for comfort and RO for drinking water is the most complete setup.
- Office or gym: RO sized for the number of people using it.
Questions to ask before choosing
- What is the exact model certified for? Check the listing, not the box.
- How often are filters and the membrane replaced at our usage?
- Does it connect to the fridge and ice maker?
- How much water goes to the drain? The City of Doral asked residents to conserve during the February 2026 water shortage warning, so it is worth knowing.
Cost factors are covered in reverse osmosis cost in Doral.
