What changed in Doral's water
| Before June 2025 | Since June 6, 2025 | |
|---|---|---|
| Fluoride added at the plant? | Yes, at the Hialeah, John E. Preston and Alexander Orr, Jr. plants | No |
| Why the change | Long-standing county practice | County Resolution R-370-25 (May 6, 2025) and Florida Senate Bill 700 (effective July 1, 2025) |
| Main System fluoride | Adjusted by the utility | 0.1 to 0.3 ppm, naturally occurring, per WASD's 2025 report |
WASD had added fluoride since 1958. Its 2025 report says stopping does not significantly affect its treatment processes or compliance with water quality standards.
Reading the report correctly
The data table in WASD's 2025 Water Quality Report still shows a fluoride row with results from the whole year, which includes months before the change. The footnote under the table explains the post-change range. If you compare older reports, the drop you see is the end of fluoridation, not a change in the aquifer. The regulatory maximum for fluoride, 4 parts per million, has not changed.
Ways to reduce fluoride at home
- Reverse osmosis: a common method for reducing fluoride at the kitchen tap. Certification for fluoride reduction falls under NSF/ANSI 58; look for fluoride on the exact model's listing or performance data sheet.
- Activated alumina and specialty media: used in some systems, with their own maintenance needs.
- Standard carbon filters: generally not designed for fluoride. Most pitcher and refrigerator filters do not claim it.
- Whole-home carbon systems: aimed at chlorine and chloramine, not fluoride.
Living Water's under-sink systems are alkaline reverse osmosis units with a dedicated faucet. Ask Jorge for the model's performance data so you can verify any fluoride claim yourself.
A neutral note
This page does not take a side on fluoride. The decision about fluoride and dental care is yours to make with your dentist or doctor. What we can help with is the water side: what is in your tap now, and which equipment is designed to change it.
Where fluoride fits in a Doral home
Most Doral households that ask about fluoride are really choosing a drinking water system. In a condo, under-sink RO is usually the practical choice. In a townhome or house, a whole-home filter for chloramine plus RO at the kitchen sink covers both comfort and drinking water. Jorge tests your water free and explains the options.
