What is in Doral shower water
- Chloramine: WASD's 2025 report lists a Main System average of 2.5 parts per million. It keeps the water disinfected through the pipes. Many people notice the smell more in a hot shower, where it vaporizes.
- Short chlorine periods: about two weeks at a time, WASD switches to free chlorine during maintenance, and the City of Doral has passed those notices on to residents. Some people notice a stronger smell then.
- Hardness: WASD's Hialeah and Preston plants reduce hardness, so many Doral homes have moderate levels. Your tap may still differ, especially on a well.
Comfort, not medicine
We talk about shower water as a comfort issue. Filtration changes how water smells and feels, and some households prefer it. It is not a treatment for eczema, psoriasis or any skin condition. Many other things affect skin too: hot water, long showers, soap choice, air conditioning and South Florida sun. If you have a rash, persistent itching or a diagnosed condition, a dermatologist is the right first call.
What a test shows
During a free in-home visit, Jorge tests the disinfectant and hardness at your tap and explains each in plain words. That tells you whether the things a filter or softener can change are actually present at meaningful levels in your home. If your water shows modest hardness and normal chloramine, he will tell you so, and you can decide whether a filter is worth it to you.
Options for every shower in the house
| Option | What it does | Fits best |
|---|---|---|
| Whole-home chloramine filter | Reduces chlorine and chloramine at every tap and shower | Doral townhomes and houses |
| Softener | Reduces hardness minerals | Homes where the test shows real hardness, or wells |
| Shower-head filter | Small cartridge at one shower | Renters and condos; check what it is certified for |
Living Water describes its Puronics whole-home systems as removing chlorine and chloramine. See whole-home filtration in Doral and chloramine filters.
Condos and rentals
Many Doral residents live in condos or rent, where whole-home equipment may not be allowed. In that case, a shower-head filter is the simple option, though small cartridges have short contact time with chloramine, so check what the specific model is certified to reduce. For drinking water in the same unit, an under-sink RO system is common.
