Match the symptom to the equipment
| What bothers you | Usual cause | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Pool or bleach smell, chemical taste | Chloramine (or free chlorine during WASD conversions) | Filter |
| White crust on faucets, scale in kettles and heaters | Hardness | Softener |
| Orange stains near sprinklers | Iron in well water | Iron treatment at the well |
| Rotten-egg smell from hot water only | Water heater reaction | Plumber; not a filter |
| Want better drinking water | Taste and preference | Under-sink RO |
Why Doral homes usually start with a filter
WASD's 2025 report says the Hialeah plant uses lime treatment to reduce hardness and the Preston plant uses enhanced softening, and those plants generally serve areas north of SW 8 Street, including Doral. The same report lists chloramine in the Main System at an average of 2.5 parts per million. So the thing most Doral residents notice is the disinfectant, not scale. A whole-home filter designed for both chlorine and chloramine targets that.
Why Doral businesses often need a softener
Equipment that heats water all day concentrates whatever minerals remain. In Doral's restaurants, hotels, gyms and laundries, that can mean scale in dishwashers, ice machines, water heaters and commercial washers even when household taps look fine. Living Water installs ion-exchange softening plants for businesses, sized after testing the water and reviewing daily use. See water softeners in Doral.
When you need both
- A private well with hardness and a taste or odor issue.
- A business protecting equipment and wanting better water at drinking stations.
- A home where the test shows real hardness at the tap and the household dislikes the chloramine smell.
When both are needed, the order of equipment matters, and Living Water configures it from the test. More in softener vs. filter: which do you need.
A quick self-check before the visit
Two minutes with these questions makes the free test more useful:
- Fill a glass from the kitchen tap and smell it right away. A pool smell points to the disinfectant.
- Look at the aerator on your bathroom faucet. A hard white crust that will not wipe off points to hardness.
- Check your water heater's age and any scale complaints from your plumber.
- If you run a business, list the equipment that uses hot water and how often it needs descaling.
- Note whether the smell got stronger for a couple of weeks recently. That can be WASD's temporary switch to free chlorine, which the City of Doral announced for September 9 to 22, 2024, rather than a change you need to treat differently.
