Water factors you can measure
- Chloramine. Hollywood's 2025 report lists an average of 2.42 parts per million. A hot shower releases the smell, and some people find the water feels harsher.
- Hardness. The plant softens much of the water, but a tap test confirms your level. Hard water can leave soap residue that some people notice on skin and hair.
- Temperature. Very hot, long showers dry skin regardless of what is in the water.
Other things that matter
Sun, air conditioning, chlorinated pools and ocean swims are a big part of life near Hollywood Beach, and all of them affect how skin feels. Soaps and body washes matter too. Treating your water is one variable among several.
Hard water and soap
When hardness is high, soap reacts with calcium and magnesium and forms a film, the same one you see as soap scum on the tub. Some people notice it as a squeaky or filmy feel on skin and hair. In Hollywood, the city's lime softening and reverse osmosis treatment reduce hardness in much of the supply, so many homes on city water will not see this strongly. A tap test shows whether hardness is part of your picture or not.
What a test shows
Jorge measures chlorine and chloramine, hardness, total dissolved solids and pH at your shower or nearest tap. If the numbers are low, he will tell you water may not be the main factor. If chloramine is the issue, that points to chloramine filtration.
Whole-home options
- Whole-home city water system: Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring systems as removing chlorine and chloramine at every tap, including showers. See whole-home filtration in Hollywood.
- Softener: only if your test shows meaningful hardness. See softeners in Hollywood.
- Shower-head filters: small and inexpensive, but check whether the model lists chloramine reduction, not just chlorine.
Simple changes to try first
- Shorter, warm (not hot) showers.
- A gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Moisturizing right after you dry off.
- Rinsing off after the pool or beach.
If these help and your water test looks fine, you may not need equipment at all. If the chemical smell in the shower bothers you regardless, that is where whole-home filtration fits.
No medical claims
We cannot tell you that filtered water will fix a skin condition. If itching, rashes or dryness persist, a dermatologist is the right person to see. Better water is about comfort and preference.
