System factors
- Type: under-sink RO, whole-home filtration, a softener, or a multi-stage well system.
- Size: whole-home systems are sized to the household's flow; bigger families and more bathrooms need more capacity.
- Combination: a whole-home filter plus kitchen RO is two pieces of equipment; ask for each priced separately.
Homestead installation details
- Where the line enters and how much room there is, inside or outside.
- Irrigation bypass, so lawn water is not treated.
- Backflow requirements. Homestead is launching a Cross-Connection Control Program for users required to have a backflow device, and it lists irrigation systems and auxiliary wells as cross-connections. If your property has a well and city water, ask how that affects the install.
- Well equipment location on rural lots, which can mean longer runs and electrical work.
Why two Homestead quotes can look so different
One company may quote a single cartridge housing; another may quote a full whole-home system with a softener and RO. One may include installation materials, permits and a first service; another may not. Neither number means much until the equipment, certifications, labor and upkeep are listed line by line.
