What the Town's treatment already did
Jupiter's water arrives at your meter after a membrane plant, not a lime softening plant. The Town describes nanofiltration and reverse osmosis as advanced membrane processes that remove undesirable dissolved constituents. So a whole-home system here is not trying to soften or strip minerals. Its job is the part the Town adds on purpose at the end: chloramine, so the water stays disinfected in the pipes.
What a whole-home system does at your main
- Reduces chlorine and chloramine at every tap, including showers and the washing machine.
- Uses media designed for chloramine, such as catalytic carbon, with enough contact time at your peak flow.
- Leaves the house protected by the pipes upstream: the Town's disinfectant does its job before the water reaches your filter.
Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems as removing chloramine and chlorine.
Sizing a Jupiter home
Homes here range from older single-story houses near the Inlet to large newer homes west of I-95 with several bathrooms and pool equipment. Sizing depends on:
- Number of bathrooms and simultaneous showers.
- Main line size and where it enters the house.
- Whether irrigation runs off the same line. Many communities irrigate with reuse water from the Loxahatchee River District instead, which keeps that flow off your filter.
- Space in the garage or utility area, and HOA rules for outdoor equipment.
The summer chlorine weeks
Every summer Jupiter switches from chloramine to free chlorine for about three weeks; the 2026 maintenance ran July 14 through August 4. That is when many households notice the disinfectant most. A system designed for chloramine also handles free chlorine, so one setup covers both periods.
Whole-home vs. under-sink in Jupiter
| Your main concern | Usually enough |
|---|---|
| Chlorine smell in the shower | Whole-home |
| Taste of drinking and coffee water | Under-sink RO |
| Both | Whole-home plus under-sink RO |
| Private well in Jupiter Farms | Well system built from a test |
More: under-sink RO in Jupiter and whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
