Town water or a well: the biggest cost split
| Jupiter Utilities water | Private well | |
|---|---|---|
| Main target | Chloramine taste and odor | Whatever the well test shows |
| Typical stages | Whole-home carbon, optional kitchen RO | Sediment, iron or sulfur treatment, softener, drinking water RO |
| Testing needed | Free in-home screening | Screening, and often a certified lab test |
What changes the price on Town water
- Home size and flow: more bathrooms need more media to keep enough contact time for chloramine.
- Chloramine level: the Town lists a highest running annual average of 2.99 ppm, and higher levels use media faster.
- Plumbing access: where the main enters, slab vs. garage access, and how far to a drain.
- Add-ons: an under-sink RO in the kitchen, a fridge line.
What usually does not need paying for
Because Jupiter's water is membrane-treated, many Town-water homes do not need softening. A quote that includes a softener for a home on Town water should come with a measured hardness number that justifies it.
Ownership costs to ask about
- How often the media or cartridges are replaced, and what that involves.
- Whether the system needs electricity or a drain.
- Service visits and who performs them.
- How the system handles the annual free chlorine weeks.
More: annual cost of owning a whole-home filter.
What a fair quote shows
- The test results it is based on.
- Equipment model and capacity.
- Installation scope, including any permits or HOA items.
- Maintenance schedule.

Juno Beach, Tequesta and county addresses
Jupiter Utilities serves the Town, the Town of Juno Beach and unincorporated parts of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The Village of Tequesta and Seacoast Utility Authority run their own systems and connect to Jupiter only for emergencies, according to the Town's water supply plan. That matters for a quote: the disinfectant, the source and the treatment can differ by utility, so the equipment should be chosen from the report that matches your bill and a test at your tap. A quote copied from a neighbor across a utility line may be built for different water.
